The Abruzzese oil press is a cornerstone of the region’s rural history, reflecting its ancient olive‑oil tradition. Early mechanical presses were built by farmers using large beams or lever‑and‑winch systems requiring significant physical strength. Wooden manual presses remained in use in rural Abruzzo until the 1970s.
