Self‑made dough chest from rural mountain Abruzzo, early 20th century. Fir wood with dovetail joints; the lid served as both cover and work surface. Left unfinished to avoid contaminating flour. Used for preparing and storing essential foods such as bread and pasta. 70 cm (27.56 in) w x 28.5 cm (11.22 in) h x 43 cm (16.93 in) d.
A fundamental object in mountain kitchens, also used during transhumance journeys toward the Tavoliere delle Puglie.
