fuoricatalogo® participates, through its galleries, in the celebration of one hundred years of Surrealism, together with the major museums and the most important art galleries in the world. The surrealist current appears today in all its importance, a basic movement of contemporary art, which has become a paradigm of freedom of expression, among the most precious forms of freedom for the human race. Given the primary relevance of the study and conservation of cultural heritage for contemporary society – today too conditioned by a social competition that leaves less and less space for cultural in-depth analysis – Art, a primary element of Culture, must increasingly become a fundamental and indispensable in the development of man in an evolutionary sense. In the gallery it is possible to admire surrealist works in different artistic declinations and delve deeper into the topic at various levels.

2024 celebrates one hundred years of Surrealism, a literary and artistic movement that conventionally sees its birth with André Breton’s Manifesto of 1924. Surrealism can be considered the pinnacle of that intellectual and artistic movement which, in the second half of the nineteenth century, attempted to free itself from conventions and figurative rules. In fact, starting from the Incoherent Arts Movement (1882 – 1893), where humor and laughter become the paradigm of contrast to the excessive seriousness of the art world, passing necessarily from Dadaism (1916) to arrive at Surrealism, we photograph movements and fundamental currents for all contemporary art. For the surrealist artist, rationalism and positivism led to catastrophes such as World War I. These were the years of the great European dictatorships and the need to overcome bourgeois society and culture took hold. The idea of revolution is the individual’s most effective defense to overcome the economic mechanisms of capitalism. Art plays an important role because it can have transgression as a fundamental ingredient. It is also a fight against a civilization founded on the repression of drives, a deepening of the real through the transcendent; everything that is automatic, devoid of the control and conditioning of consciousness, is surrealism; that psychic automatism which, through the unconscious, allows us to associate words, thoughts and images without inhibitory brakes and conditioning. Surrealism becomes a paradigm of the liberation of the artist’s imagination; it is rebellion against cultural and social conventions, conceived as a total transformation of life, through freedom of customs, poetry and love. Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud are to be considered the philosophical references of Surrealism. Among the main exponents of the Surrealist Movement in the artistic field: Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Giorgio De Chirico, Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, Man Ray, Joan Mirò, René Magritte, Salvador Dalì.
