1,600.00

Set of four imposing 19th‑century carved and oil‑painted wooden overdoor panels from a noble residence in Central Italy. Original condition. 155 cm (61.02 in) x 50 cm (19.69 in).

Wooden overdoor panels were used from the 17th century onward in luxury residences to elevate entrances and embellish interiors. In the 18th century they became distinctive decorative elements, amplifying Baroque and Rococo motifs. The central crest typically framed a noble family’s coat of arms. They remained common throughout the 19th century, declining only with the rise of Art Déco in the early 20th century.
